Paint the town.

Each letter in this set is completely unique and marbled by hand by the artisans at Il Papiro, a historic paper shop in Florence. With origins in Japan and Persia, the tradition of paper marbling arrived in Europe around the 16th century. A completely manual process, the artist fills a basin with liquid and paint, then combs the liquid to create otherworldly patterns. Finally, the artist lays each sheet of paper on top of the liquid to absorb the color.

About the Producer

Il Papiro was founded in 1976 in the heart of Florence by Francesco Giannini and Gianni Parenti, two native Florentines with a passion for the traditional crafts of their city. These paper decoration techniques, from hand-marbling to wood engraving, date back centuries in the most famous art city in Italy. To this day, Il Papiro focuses on protecting these timeless crafts, and the artisans who make them.

*stunning* Italian stationery

I ordered two boxes of these cards, and honestly, I wish I had ordered more. The colors are so vivid, the paper so velvety... this is the type of thing you just never see in stationery shops in the U.S. Beautiful to use yourself or lovely to give as a gift (it even came tied up with a lovely blue bow!).

A work of art

I love this stationery – you can really tell it is handmade, and each piece is different! Makes it fun to pick out the perfect color per recipient.

Lovely set

I remember visiting Il Papiro in Florence and loving their marbled paper! So glad I found a shop in the US that sells this stationery set.
