How to Make a Taralli Wreath

Learn how to make this festive taralli wreath in just a few simple steps.

Taralli have to be one of our all-time favorite Italian snacks. A specialty from Puglia, these crunchy, doughnut-shaped breadsticks are perfectly bite-sized and come in a variety of flavors, from black pepper to fennel! What’s not to love?

It’s Italy, it’s not uncommon to receive a bowl of complimentary taralli when you order a cocktail, beer, or glass of wine at a bar. In some ways, they’re like the bowl of nuts that you often find in American bars–plentiful and always available, so long as you order a drink.

With the holidays coming up, we thought it’d be fun to feature taralli, especially since many of us are indulging in that extra beverage or two!

Enter: a festive, edible, and oh so Italian taralli wreath.

What is a taralli wreath?

It’s exactly as it sounds: a wreath made of taralli!  It’s a simple, DIY craft that you can create in just a couple of hours. Taralli wreaths make wonderful gifts for food lovers. For example, you could dress it up with a fancy tin or box and pair it with salami, cheese, and a bottle of wine to gift someone an Italian aperitivo. The best part? You only need two things to make it: taralli and a festive ribbon or string.

Thread your ribbon or string through each tarallo. For a larger wreath, use about 40 taralli. For a small wreath, 14 taralli is sufficient.

Step 3

Cut the ribbon or string, leaving about four inches open on each end. Tie a bow to secure the taralli in place. Trim the ribbon as desired.
